Sports Force Parks Honored by Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities

The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities visited Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center on April 4 to present the park with a recognition of their mission to be inclusive towards children with developmental disabilities and their families.

Standing behind its corporate culture of inclusion, the park has started an adaptive kickball and t-ball league, open to all children with special needs, along with their siblings and parents, for free. Molly White, Event Coordinator for Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center has spearheaded these efforts.

The park has also joined forces with North Point Educational Service Center to host a camp for children with physical and developmental disabilities so they can hone their sports skills, learn from trained coaches, and above all else, have fun. Each camper gets a free hat and t-shirt courtesy of Under Armour, who sponsors the camp.

Additionally, the park has an ADA-accessible adaptive use field where these leagues and camps will take place, among other events; the park plans to expand its programming even further in the future.

“This recognition is such a huge honor for us. Every employee here understands how vital inclusion is, and they go above and beyond to be welcoming to all of our guests,” says Brian Storm, President & CEO of Sports Fields, Inc. He continues, “As the parent of a child with autism, I recognize how special it is to have a place where a child with disabilities can play sports, and get lots of encouragement and support from those around them.”
